Meet the Visionary

Phyllicia Carr is a multidisciplinary artist based in Indianapolis whose work explores identity, healing, and cultural memory through painting, photography, and design. Blending realism with abstract elements, her vivid compositions center women and marginalized communities, often using botanicals and vibrant color as visual metaphors. Her work has been exhibited nationally in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Indianapolis with organizations like JP Morgan Chase, WACO Theater Center, Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, the Jordan Brand (Nike), Cummins, Inc., the Indianapolis Arts Council, and more.

Branching out into the public art space, Carr’s murals span across Indiana, including commissions for IU Ball Memorial Hospital, Connor Prairie, the Nickel Plate Trail, an apprentice on the Bicentennial Legends Mural at Morris Bicentennial Plaza, Fountain Square, the 2024 NBA All-Star and was recently, a featured mural on the Indianapolis Arts Garden for the 2025 WNBA All-Star weekend.

Leveraging her Communications degree, she was a featured panelist with AIGA, Young & Laramore, Butter Art Fair, Indy Urban League, and others. Awarded as a 2024 recipient of the On-Ramp Creative Entrepreneur grant, Carr continues to create impactful, community-centered work from her studio in Indianapolis.
